How to Hold an Alternative Gift Market
Useful information and tools to help you plan your event.
To help your church fight against extreme poverty and disease, organize an Alternative Gift Market. Here’s how:
Step 1: Speak with your rector or church leadership about planning a special Alternative Gift Market event.
Step 2: Select a team leader(s). Gather a team that can help brainstorm, advertise and organize the event. Coordinate the event by using our online information and tools, including:
- An Alternative Gift Market Instruction Sheet that includes a planning checklist and several creative ideas.
- A list of Materials and Resources for the Alternative Gift Market, including shipping and delivery information for ordering materials. Please be sure to order materials four (4) full weeks in advance. Additional information and downloads are also available to help you tailor the event to your parish’s needs.
Step 3: Contact your Episcopal Relief & Development Diocesan Coordinator and let him/her know your church is planning an Alternative Gift Market. If you need contact information for your Diocesan Coordinator, please email engagement@episcopalrelief.org.
Step 4: Announce and publish the date as soon as possible in the church bulletin or Sunday service leaflet, and on the website. Explain briefly the purpose of the Alternative Gift Market. Use our sample bulletin insert to help you draft this message.
