Latin America & the Caribbean
Approximately 15.6 million people die each year from preventable diseases. Around the world, many people lack access to basic health care and services.
Episcopal Relief & Development and its partners work to promote health and fight disease by protecting people from contracting common illnesses, and emphasizing overall health and wellness in communities.
Working with local churches and organizations, our integrated health programs strive to prevent diseases by increasing access to immunizations, proper nutrition, affordable clinic care and education, maternal and child health, adequate sanitation and hygiene, and proper water systems. In partnership with health workers and clinics, we target diseases such as malaria, HIV/AIDS, acute respiratory infections (pneumonia) and waterborne diseases. People are able to live healthier and more productive lives.
Your gifts help us to empower people to care from themselves and their families by:
- Linking communities to immunizations and medicine through local and mobile clinics
- Offering maternal and child health programs
- Addressing the needs of those impacted by HIV/AIDS through education, care for orphaned children and support for extended families
- Training health workers to educate their communities about disease prevention, symptom identification and treatment
- Building wells, water stations, latrines and other systems to promote sanitation and prevent the spread of waterborne diseases
- Equipping malaria control agents as they educate communities, hang mosquito nets in homes and monitor net usage
