Prayers for Those Impacted by Boston Marathon Blasts
April 16, 2013
Just before 3:00pm on Monday, April 15, two explosions occurred near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. At least three deaths and 176 injuries have been reported so far.
Episcopal Relief & Development has been in touch with the Rt. Rev. Bishop Thomas Shaw, SSJE, and the local Diocesan Disaster Coordinators for the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts, and we stand ready to offer support.
At this time, Episcopal Relief & Development’s US Disaster Program is offering “Working with Children After Disaster,” a tip sheet for families and churches ministering to children and youth. Congregations with members who were directly impacted by the tragedy can use the curriculum packages for children, youth and teens. The organization also encourages all individuals and families to create or review their disaster preparedness plans.
Please pray for all those who have been impacted by this event, and for the first responders who put themselves in harm’s way in order to protect and help others.
O God, our times are in your hand. In the midst of uncertainty lead us by your never-failing grace as we seek to be agents of healing and hope. Walk with us through difficult times; watch over us in danger; and give to us a spirit of love and compassion for those who suffer and mourn. And finally remind us that you have promised never to leave us so that even in the valley of the shadow of death your love may be felt, through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.
